My Project's Summary

My presentation will be talking about the main Berber languages in North Africa. My project will lead you to know about the main Berber languages in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt. It will also include where and by how many people the language is spoken. It will also have the flag of the country I talk about.

The country with the most Berber speaker is Morocco. Especially in the High Atlas Mountains where there are three million people who know the language called Tamazight. From west to east, the statistics show that the amount of Berber speaker is decreasing.

I think we should keep the culture of the Berber languages because otherwise, it would finish like the hieroglyphic script. No one would understand the language and the world would loose a civilization and a knowledge. We also have to preserve it because if the language dies, the people who speak it would have no ways of communication.

I think it would be selfish to say that it is not recognized as an official language so there is no importance attached to it. We have to think that the Berbers are proud of where they are from and don't want to change their culture for something more "recent"

Your presentation was great, and I also think the berber culture and language should be preserved, like ancient Egyptian and their hieroglyphs.

    Question:

Is Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt the only places Berbers live in or are Berbers spread over all the world?

  3. Why would Berber Language become like hieroglyphic script because now in present day some people are able to understand Berber language?

I agree with you that Berber dialects should be recognized just like Brazilian Portuguese is recognized.

  6. Why is there lot of berber language in Morocco? How does it spread?

I agree, we should keep berber language. It is decreasing in many countries especially in Morocco. I think berber language is a tradition that should be kept because it is the main tradition of the berbers. They are proud of their language and as you said if they stop talking it it will extinct like hieroglyphs. Berber language is also part of their identity. I think you explained very well where the berber language is found and why it should be preserved.I enjoyed your presentation.

  7. Q : Why do the people that live in the High Atlas only know the language called Tamazight. Why don't they know any other language spoken among the Berbers.

I agree with you when you said that the Berber language should be preserved because I think that it is there way to communicate among each other and that it is the language that represents them.

  8. Great job on your presentation, and you taught me loads of facts.
I saw you were talking about berber language in only North Africa, but are there some countries that are not in North Africa that speak berber languages?

  9. I think you did a great job, and the information you gathered was very clear.

Q: Why do you think that Berbers hardly have any written languages?

  10. Question : Why are the Berber languages found only in North Africa?

I agree with you, because I think that the Berbers are proud of their language because it's their culture and their way of communicating, because if nobody cared about our language that is English, it would disappear, and the same thing would happen to the Berbers.

  12. Why are there three main languages and not just one?

I agree with you that we should be careful so that the language doesn't end up like the hieroglyphics. It would be bad if we lose a civilization that is so complex like the Berbers

  13. I agree with you but if the language dies, it means that the people that talk that language started talking another language so it doesn't make a lot of sense.

How many kinds of Berber languages are there? What are they?

  14. Nice job on your presentation,

Like Arabic there is one classical version which can be spoken worldwide. Are there any Berber languages like this so they can all communicate with each other. If so would they learn these languages in school or other places?

  15. Great job in your presentation I liked how you explained everything throughly and clearly. I don't agree that Berbers are happy of who they are because why do they hide themselves? Being Berber in the Moroccan society is an insult so if you ask a Berber if he is Berber he would say no.

Why do you think berber language will disappear like hieroglyphics because hieroglyphics are still understood today?

  16. Great Presentation Dimitri, I agree with you about if we don't preserve the Berber language it will disappear just like many other languages that people did not care for.

Why is the Tifinagh language the only language with a form of writing? and is it more important than the rest because other forms of Berber languages don't have a form of writing?

  17. Your presentation was very interesting. It's cool that berbers are spread around north Africa.

How do you think the Berber languages in different regions spread?

  18. Answers to the questions:

Patrick, Nassim and Jimin: No, some people speak the Berber languages in Europe too but North Africa is the area where Berber languages are mainly spoken.

Achraf and Rachida: The hieroglyphics have been forgotten for many years until some historians figured it out again. If the Berber language dies out, we would need a long period of time to reintroduce it to the world. We would have lost a knowledge if the language fades away.

Livia: There is not three "main" Berber languages. What I mean by "main Berber languages" is the Berber languages that are the most spoken.

Adam Bouzid: It does make sense for me because yes, of course they would learn another language, but would you like it if I came and introduced my new language and erase your traditional dialect. Suppose that Arabic is a smaller language spoken by way less people. Would you like it if I came with the English language and tell you to change it?

Noreen: I am not sure of this answer but I think that when different Berber tribes came to Morocco, they adapted the people in the area to the language to make communication easier.
